Types Of Webbings To Create Personalised Products

We can find many different types of material on the market. Which ones are best suited to our needs depends on the purpose for which the product will be used. Among the risers, we distinguish polyester, nylon, or polypropylene webbings.

All of them are characterized by high tensile strength and can be used in the production of bags, backpacks, upholstering furniture, or even as webbing for dog collars.

Due to some differences in the properties, we should carefully choose an adequate tape. We will also consider their properties in terms of printing, which is an increasingly popular form of giving the material aesthetic qualities.

Today’s branding is not just limited to sewing a label onto tapes or implementing elements with engraving. Increasingly, companies making products based on tapes are using their own distinctive motif. These designs are not limited to logos only.

Colorful webbings are becoming a trendsetter in the clothing market segment. Because the monochromatic patterns on tapes are becoming less popular, markets are beginning to compete for the individual customer not only with the product quality but also with the aesthetics delivered by the tape decoration. With this in mind, we will also look at the differences in terms of dye application.

Differences Between Webbings

  • Polypropylene webbings are the cheapest material. It protects against UV radiation, and its fibers do not absorb water, which makes them suitable as an outdoor material. They provide excellent tensile strength. Unfortunately, the material is not resistant to abrasion and is not a great printing medium. Polypropylene is less resistant to high temperatures, making sublimation printing less durable. The dyeing of the webbing itself is usually done by dyeing the yarn before weaving it, which significantly limits the possibilities of customizing the material.
  • Nylon webbings are very similar to polyester. Nylon is a strong and durable material that is also resistant to abrasion. It absorbs the dye well, which makes it suitable for printing. It’s difficult to deform and cause its edges to pill. If treated as an outdoor material, there is concern about water absorption. In such conditions, the dye applied to the tape tends to wash out, making the tape fade over time. Another disadvantage is the susceptibility to mold, which can have adverse health effects in frequent contact with the skin.
  • Polyester webbings are the most popular choice for making outdoor items. It’s durable and resistant to abrasion. It can withstand very high temperatures during the dyeing process, thus achieving a permanent print. They are soft to the touch and have low moisture absorption. As a result, the tape dries faster than nylon and does not fade due to outdoor use. This webbing material is not as stretchy as nylon, which tends to stretch when exposed to UV rays. Thus, polyester gives you more time to enjoy the print.
